UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA 100th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

On June 8th, Georgian Shores United in Owen Sound is hosting a celebration service for the 100th Anniversary of the United Church.  There will be no service at Annesley that Sunday, as they have invited congregations from all over Grey/Bruce to participate in a joint service.  Annesley’s contact for the service is Brenda Dimoff.  We hope to carpool as much as possible, so  please let Brenda know if you are interested in attending, if you would like to participate, if you need a ride to the service, or if you can take extra people in your vehicle.  Brenda can be reached at 519-794-0874 or email at dimoff@gbtel.ca, or you can speak to her after the Sunday service.

Coffee Break

There is a signup sheet in the Narthex for Coffee Hour – our wonderful Coffee Hour Hostess is unable to prepare the Coffee Hour for at least the summer, so we are looking for people to  prepare coffee and put out the treats – they are all provided by Annesley, so only your time is needed.  You can scale it down to 1 coffee hour just before or just after the service (instead of both) to make things easier –it is your choice. Thank you to anyone who can do this.

Pipe Organ – Cleaning and Servicing

Typically pipe organs need to be cleaned every 20-30 years. Annesley has owned the organ since 1991 and it was 100 years old last year. The organ is overdue for cleaning and servicing. We have received an estimated quote of $18,000 dollars plus taxes to complete this work, which would take three weeks. This is a very large expense and we need to hear from the congregation as to whether we should go ahead with this work or not. We welcome your thoughts and fundraising ideas to cover the costs and please share these with Brenda Dimoff, Dale Beare or any Board member
A question to consider: How important is the preservation of this historical musical instrument to Annesley and the community at large?

Annesley Choir

The choir will be taking a summer break. their last service is June 22nd.

In the Library

The Great Emergence by Phyllis Tickle.

Rooted in the observation that massive transitions in the church happen about every 500 years, Phyllis Tickle shows readers that we live in such a time right now. She compares the Great Emergence to other “Greats” in the history of Christianity, including the Great Transformation (when God walked among us), Anyone who is interested in the future of the church in Canada, no matter what their personal affiliation, will find this book a fascinating exploration.
